Ritual / rit·u·al

a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order.

Ritual, the exhibition, is a collection of ceramic forms that focus on the progression or decline of self-assurance. Each work is placed upon a handmade plaster pedestal that varies in height as they cut through the center of the gallery. Each work has a silicone coating that when touched, has the same consistency as human flesh. Some forms are large, confident and are lifted high and others are low to the small, unsure and low to the ground.

Ritual is a project that has been in the works for three years. It is ever growing and morphing depending on the location of the work. Ritual is made up of hundreds of hand-cast ceramic CeraVe bottles. The repetition of forms symbolizes the ritualistic aspects of daily self-care and the length that one will go to, to preserve and protect youth and beauty. The entirety of the installation adds up to 365 days (1 day = 4 inches). The gaps are measured based on how many days these “daily rituals” have been skipped or missed. 

Composure is a series of forms that explores one’s progression of losing confidence (or gaining depending on how the viewer experiences it). The five forms are perched atop wall mounted pedestals. They begin with firm and confident stature and slowly begin to decline as we move the sixth and final pedestal, which remains empty. The final work has slipped from the wall and rests on the ground.
